Granted, I don't really have too much new to say about most of these movies that I haven't already said before at some point, and in a number of instances, it's been years since I've last revisited them, so they're not exactly the freshest in mind at the moment. However, I do still hold fond memories of my experiences with all of them, and the ones that I have revisited, I still found enjoyment out of them, despite their negative reputation or any inherent flaws with the movies.
So then, let's get to the list, which will be presented in alphabetical order. But first, a few honorable mentions, consisting of movies that had all received an honorable nod from the year that I had originally made mention of them in the first place.
The Expendables
2010, Honorable Mention
Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance
2012, Honorable Mention
White House Down
2013, Honorable Mention
And now without any further ado, onto the main list, where I'll also be including the original placement where each movie landed on that year's particular list...
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
2016, #6
The Counselor
2013, #4
Need For Speed
2014, #5
Resident Evil: Retribution
2012, #10
San Andreas
2015, #8
Sucker Punch
2011, #1
AND
Best of Decade So Far, #5
X-Men Origins: Wolverine
2009, #8
So there you have it. And like I already said, I don't really have much else to add, except that I'll be interested to see what other such peculiar movies will manage to hit me in just the right way and find themselves on future lists in the years to come.
Oh yeah...Wolverine deserves that spot for Hugh's hairstyle and marvelous chopping of the wood scenes alone :) I can certainly see how many of those can have an appeal especially Counselor (great work from Bardem, Pitt and Dormer) and Sucker Punch (it was quite unique despite failing to deliver imho). And Expendables is just so much fun.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I figured you'd approve of that Wolverine entry. ;D
DeleteBut yeah, that's part of why I wanted to put together this list. Because while these might just be MY picks, even when I look over other people's lists and happen upon similar such "peculiar" entries, I do have to remind myself that these sorts of movies can definitely have their appeal to certain people, even if it's not always me in that particular instance. Which is perfectly okay, and like I said, oftentimes wind up being the most interesting choices for those reasons and because they just stand out so much.
And yeah, Expendables totally got it based solely on fun factor alone. Still one of the most enjoyable theater experiences I've ever had was with that movie. :)
I really need to rewatch Expendables movies one day. I don't remember anything about the second one.
DeleteYeah all sorts of movies can find their fans. I was working on my top 100 list yesterday and I have The Heat in there and that would probably outrage a lot of people :)
Sadly, The Expendables didn't exactly hold up on a rewatch at home, but I still cherish that theater experience with it, lol.
DeleteAs to The Heat, I've actually yet to see that one, so at least on my end, no outrage just yet. I'm assuming I should check it out now though, just to see, right? :P
The Heat is seriously hilarious. I could watch it every day and not be tired of it, just like Spy :) I wish Statham slowed down with action movies and properly returned to comedy the guy is so funny
DeleteTrue, Statham stole the show in Spy. Dude's got some fantastic comedic chops. ;)
